“Digging up Stamford”
Our new exhibit is titled Digging Up Stamford: An Archaeological History of Stamford from 11,000 BP to the Present . It covers the history of Greater Stamford from 11,000 years ago to the present, and features materials dug up from sites around the area. We have been working with a number of local and area institutions to put this exhibit together, not the least the Norwalk Community College, where a large number of Stamford material is stored. At the same time, we are complete items from the Society’s collection to illustrate what fragmentary remains looked like when whole.
This is the first exhibit the Society will have done that emphasizes both the European and the Native American past of the community.
The Society would like to enlarge its own archaeological collections – especially the Native American one.
We do welcome any input and loans as well as donation of material, as always.
