This month our web site, www.stamfordhistory.org, is all about the Farms in Stamford, the post speaks for itself and you will be doing yourself a favor if you were to visit it. Ron Marcus, the Society's librarian wrote this to Irene Hahn our webmaster:
"You are to be congratulated for bringing these images out of relative obscurity onto the website. It is hard to believe that for several centuries Stamford was primarily an agrarian community, with some fishing and oystering on Long Island Sound, plus a small amount of trade to the West Indies. With the advent of the railroad this way of life immediately began to decline. Fortunately, a few remnants of it survived into the age of photography.
Hopefully this will inspire someone to do some research into local agriculture.
Many thanks. "
There is so much to learn at the Society and we have so much to offer to those doing research and for those that just want to see what we have. Get inspired, visit us.
